Alright guys, today’s topic is writing/story genres. Because I’ve recently come across a few things that have upset me while looking through some fanfictions.

Now, I don’t know how much all of you know about fanfictions, but it’s my hobby to look through anime fanfictions when I’m not doing anything else, so I know quite a bit.

For those of you who don’t know, I’ll explain:

Fanfictions are just what they sound like, fiction written by fans about… well almost anything. We can find fanfiction about anything from TV shows to anime to books! And there are certain genres of fanfiction, like Alternate Universe (where the author changes the original settings to create a new world for the characters), Crack (which is pretty much a spoof), and Mary-Sue (where OC or original characters, characters not part of the topic they’re writing about, are put into the story and given a significant role).

Mary-Sue is what I want to talk about. Because once upon a time, back when I was little (like 5 or 6 years ago) this genre was VERY popular. Almost everyone was writing Mary/Gary-Sue stories because the readers could put themselves in the story, where the OCs are, and kind of pretend that they were in that setting. I mean, who doesn’t want to be in their favorite anime? And there are even pairing fics for all those girls/guys out there like me who claims their own guys in every anime/movie they watch. Lol So not only are you in the anime/movie you love, you can be paired with the guy you want. And all you have to do is read it! Someone else writes it all for you!

Sounds great, yeah? No! Nowadays, somewhere within the last few year while I was drawing instead of reading, this genre earned a bad name. The once popular Mary-Sue stories are now frowned upon, leaving people like me wondering what the hell happened!

But that’s not what gets me. It’s the fact that the people who want to try to bring the genre back get HARASSED when they post up their stories!!! I don’t know about you guys, but to tell anyone that they’re writing is an abomination, that they should be shot, tell them to walk into traffic, or to report their story just because you don’t like it is a VERY, VERY wrong and hurtful thing to do!

My belief is that people should be able to write whatever they want so long as they give a proper disclaimer. I don’t care what it is, who likes it, or who hates it, they have free will and they should be able to write anything they want without being afraid of harassment every time they post a chapter or a new story!

My question is: where the hell do these haters come from?! What kind of little shit would go looking for things that they don’t like just to insult it and hound on the people who write it? Do they have nothing better to do? It their life so horribly boring that they feel they need to do these things? Oh, but they don’t do it face to face! If they want to insult some one, they do it ANONYMOUSLY!! They don’t login so that not only can they hide, but their harassment can’t be flagged or reported. About the only thing you can do is delete their post and hope they don’t come back.

And if any of you do these things, SHAME ON YOU! It’s VERY disrespectful and very WRONG! Don’t do it! And don’t do it to me, because I have news for you: You will get your ass handed to you.
